BnM and H&MV Engineering Sign Electrical Balance of Plant Contract for Oweninny Wind Farm Phase 3

BnM has formally signed a significant contract with H&MV Engineering for the provision of Electrical Balance of Plant (EBoP) services as part of the development of Oweninny Wind Farm Phase 3 in North Mayo, a major renewable energy project that will strengthen Ireland’s clean energy capacity.

The EBoP covers the full suite of electrical infrastructure required to support, control, and connect the renewable energy asset to the national grid. This includes substations, transformers, switchgear, cabling, and control systems, all of which are essential components for ensuring secure and reliable energy production and transmission.

Oweninny Wind Farm Project

Oweninny Phase 3, which has received planning approval from An Coimisiún Pleanála, will consist of 18 turbines with a projected output of approximately 100MW, alongside a new 110 kV substation and underground grid cable connecting the development to the transmission system at the existing Bellacorick substation.

The wind farm forms the next stage of the broader Oweninny development, following Phase 1 (commissioned in 2019) and Phase 2 (commissioned in 2023), and will meaningfully contribute to Ireland’s renewable energy targets and national energy security.

John Reilly, Head of Renewables, BnM, welcomed the contract signing, saying: “This is an important milestone in the delivery of Oweninny Wind Farm Phase 3 and in BnM’s ambition to build a 5GW pipeline of sustainable energy systems – including wind, solar and biomass projects. Our focus is on enabling industrial and economic growth while safeguarding our environment for generations to come. We look forward to progressing this critical project in partnership with H&MV as part of our commitment to Ireland’s renewable energy future.”

David Maher, Managing Director of Ireland at H&MV Engineering added: “We are delighted to support BnM on the EBoP works for Oweninny Wind Farm Phase 3. As a global leader in high-voltage electrical engineering, delivering turnkey solutions for energy, data centre, and industrial infrastructure, we bring extensive expertise in delivering safe, resilient and efficient projects.
