Employee Spotlight: CSA Site Engineer – Norway

Hi, I’m Dzenis Mustajbasic, CSA Site Engineer at H&MV. I’ve been with the company just over a year, and it’s been an amazing journey of learning, development, and exciting challenges.

Tell us about your role at H&MV Engineering and what a typical day on site looks like.

As a CSA Site Engineer at H&MV, I am responsible for coordinating and delivering civil, structural and architectural (CSA) works on site, with a strong focus on safety, quality and programme.

A typical day involves carrying out site inspections, coordinating with CSA subcontractors, and liaising closely with the wider project team and the client. I manage requests for Information (RIF) and technical submittals, monitor quality through inspection and test plans and inspections, and maintain Quality Assurance (QA) documentation such as check sheets and benchmarks. I also prepare weekly reports and site diaries and actively participate in project and design meetings to ensure works are progressing in line with approved design and programme requirements.

What attracted you to H&MV Engineering, and what has kept you here?

I was initially drawn to H&MV because of its strong reputation for delivering large, technically complex data centre and energy projects.

What has kept me here is the level of trust placed in me to manage elements of the CSA scope on site. Rather than focusing solely on administrative tasks, I’ve had the opportunity to work through real technical and organisational challenges, which has been very rewarding from a professional development perspective.

H&MV is known for delivering complex, large-scale projects. How does that complexity show up in your day-to-day work?

On large projects, complexity is most evident in the coordination of multiple interfaces — particularly between CSA and electrical works — as well as document control and managing several subcontractors working in parallel.

On a daily basis, I support the resolution of technical issues and RFIs, track submittals, and ensure all works are aligned with the latest approved drawings. This helps ensure construction is delivered in line with design intent, programme requirements and quality standards.

Have you had opportunities to grow or take on more responsibility since joining H&MV?

Yes — during my time at H&MV, I’ve been given the opportunity to independently manage parts of the CSA activities, coordinate subcontractors, control documentation and contribute to planning and progress tracking. Over time, I’ve taken on increased responsibility within QA processes, lessons learned initiatives and weekly reporting.

How does H&MV support your development as an engineer?

H&MV supports development through hands-on exposure to complex projects, close collaboration with experienced engineers and managers, and active involvement in key processes such as quality management, planning, design coordination and client engagement.

I’m also heavily involved in document management, technical processes and continuous improvement initiatives, which has been invaluable for my professional growth.

How would you describe the culture on site and within the CSA team?

The culture on site and within the CSA team is professional, open and strongly team-oriented.

Communication between the site team, project team, designers and subcontractors is direct and constructive, with a consistent focus on safety, quality and proactive problem-solving.

What’s it like living and working in Norway while being part of an international project team?

Living and working in Norway offers a stable and well-organised working environment, with a strong emphasis on health and safety.

Being part of an international project team means learning every day from people with different technical backgrounds and cultures, which adds significant value to my overall professional experience.

With H&MV continuing to grow globally, what excites you most about the future?

What excites me most is the opportunity to continue working on large international projects and to further develop my career by taking on increased responsibility within the CSA discipline.

I’m particularly motivated by future mission-critical and energy projects, as well as contributing to the continuous improvement of site delivery processes.

What would you say to engineers considering a career at H&MV Engineering?

H&MV is a company where engineers are trusted with real responsibility on live projects from an early stage.

You work directly with subcontractors, designers and clients, are involved in quality, planning and technical processes, and have genuine opportunities to build your career on major international projects.
