500 MW BESS

Case Study:

Project Location.

Client Challenges.

Connection of 500 MW Battery Energy Storage System at 400 kV to the grid in Scotland. The client required a competent contractor for design, procurement, permitting, construction, commissioning and handover with critical considerations for National Grid outage windows and large-scale project delivery.

Our Solution.

  • H&MV Engineering provided a full EPC solution for the 500 MVA 400/33 kV transformer installation, with staff holding appropriate Scottish Power Authorisations.
  • The project involves a comprehensive 400 kV Air Insulated Substation (AIS) bay, including circuit breakers, disconnects, and supporting infrastructure. H&MV coordinated critical interfaces with Scottish Power and National Grid to ensure precise outage dates and commissioning plans.
  • H&MV managed the full design and installation of grid transformers, including 2 × 240/120/120 MVA and 1 × 120 MVA 400:33 kV transformers, along with five 100 MW 33 kV connected Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) blocks, delivering a comprehensive and technically complex power infrastructure solution.
