  • H&MV Engineering to deliver 99MW/198MWh Battery Energy Storage System in the West Midlands
  • Project utilises 54 Tesla Megapacks with high-quality design from H&MV Engineering
  • Construction reinforces H&MV’s expertise in renewable energy infrastructure and BESS solutions

We’re pleased to announce that we have been selected as the Balance of Plant contractor for Eku Energy‘s new 99MW/198MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Ocker Hill in the West Midlands. The project, which represents a significant investment from Eku Energy, is scheduled for commissioning in late 2026.

H&MV Engineering has been specifically chosen for its high-quality design capabilities and proven experience in delivering BESS projects using Tesla’s technology. The project will utilise 54 Tesla Megapacks and will be situated near the site of the former Ocker Hill coal-fired power station, symbolising the transition from traditional power generation to modern energy storage solutions.

The project marks another significant milestone in H&MV Engineering’s growing portfolio of renewable energy infrastructure projects across the United Kingdom. As Balance of Plant contractor, H&MV Engineering will be responsible for the comprehensive design and construction of the facility’s infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration of the Tesla Megapacks within the wider energy system.

Nigel Taylor, UK Managing Director at H&MV Engineering comments:

“We are delighted to be selected as the Balance of Plant contractor for Eku Energy’s strategically important Ocker Hill BESS project. This selection underscores our engineering expertise and growing reputation in delivering complex energy storage solutions that support the UK’s transition to renewable energy. The project represents an exciting opportunity to transform an historic energy generation site into a cutting-edge facility that will contribute to grid stability and enable greater integration of renewable energy sources across the Midlands and beyond.”

Eku Energy’s Ocker Hill BESS project has secured debt financing from NatWest Bank and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), with Smartest Energy serving as the tolling provider under a 10-year agreement. This collaborative approach brings together industry leaders to deliver a project that will play a crucial role in supporting the UK’s energy transition and enhancing grid resilience.
